There are several types of Financial Support available to PRIMES Students
PRIMES Fellowship: The principal mechanism for support is the PRIMES Fellowship, which is available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The full year Fellowship stipend for 2004/2005 is $30,000 plus tuition. PRIMES also supports student activities such as travel to conferences. More information can be found in the FAQ.
PRIMES Sponsored Travel: The PRIMES Sponsored Travel basic criteria is that the travel supports the interdisciplinary aspect of your education and/or research. We do not support travel for generic science conferences, etc. What we ask you to do is write a short one page document outlining the conference and workshop, specifically the interdisciplinary aspect, how you plan to participate and how it is in support of your participation in PRIMES. Please be sure to include a budget with this description. This "mini-proposal" should be submitted to Don Estep or Richard Davis several weeks (or earlier) prior to your travel in order to make the proper arrangements. If your request is approved, you will follow CSU rules and regulations for travel expenditures, including using state approved travel agents etc. You will need to work closely with the financial officer in your home department, as they are familiar with the rules and regulations surrounding student travel. The annual travel budget for each PRIMES student is $2000 per year. Travel support is available to any PRIMES
students even after their second year in the program.
Laptop Usage Program: Each year, PRIMES
students will be given the opportunity to receive a pre-configured
laptop for their use while a student. We will offer only a
preconfigured laptop so as to get the best possible deal and to make
re-assimilation easier. The laptops are powerful and will be useful
for conducting research. As with any computer purchased with grants,
these laptops will remain the property of CSU and must be returned
upon graduation. We will not provide hardware or software support for the computers.
They will come with an insurance policy that covers accidental damage. Financial Policy: The offer will be made annually in the fall. (For
2005-6, we will make the offer in January.) Students will be offered
either a laptop recycled from a graduating student or a new laptop as
necessary.
Software Purchase Program: Along with the laptop, we will offer each student up to $400 for the
purchase of software for the laptops provided through the Laptop Usage Program only. The software must be of a
professional nature. Financial Policy: This offer will be made annually in the fall. (For
2005-6, we will make the offer in January.) Students will be contacted
by email for their requests. The PRIMES Administrative Assistant will collate the requests and make
the purchases using an A-card.
Textbook Purchase Program: Each PRIMES student
will be given the opportunity to purchase up to $200 for textbooks for
each semester while they are enrolled on PRIMES support. Financial Policy: At the beginning of each semester, students will be
contacted by email for requests for text purchases. The PRIMES Administrative Assistant will collate
the requests and make the purchases using an A-card.
